Population Growth Continues in Texas

In the latest population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, four Texas counties ranked in the top 10 for population growth from 2015 to 2016.

Harris County saw the second largest population increase in the country. They added almost 57,000 new residents. Tarrant County ranked 5th with 35,462 new residents. Bexar County was seventh, and Dallas County added more than 29,000, coming in ninth.

Steve Murdock, head of the Hobby Center for the Study of Texas at Rice University, pointed out rapid growth in the state’s suburbs. Additionally, you can find a large amount of residents along the I-35 corridor.

Interestingly, our increasingly diverse economy in our area has allowed us to continue to grow. This is despite a downturn in the oil and gas industry.

While unemployment rates will shift up and down, analysts are predicting a strong 2017 for the Lone Star State. And we hope they are correct!

Welcome to Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau announced some impressive numbers last week.

In 2016, approximately 8.8 million people visited Fort Worth – up 35 percent from 2014.  All told, tourism industries contributed $116 million in sales tax to the City of Fort Worth.

What kind of economic impact did that create?  According to Bob Jameson, President and Chief Executive of the CVB, the industry had a $2.3 billion economic impact.  And it looks like there’s more to come.

The CVB also announced they’ve booked the largest convention in their 51-year history. Starting in 2020, the National Beta Club will meet in Fort Worth. Additionally, we should see 15,000 attendees over a five-day period.

This year, Fort Worth will host 11 major conventions, in addition to numerous conferences and meetings.

We’d like to congratulate the Fort Worth CVB on all their hard work and their dedication to bringing visitors to our wonderful city.

Birdville Elementary School Update

We are on schedule to top out block by the end of the month. We installed half the MEP and we are ready to begin hanging sheetrock.

There’s a slight schedule delay due to the rain and freezing temperatures, but our subs have worked extremely hard to gain those days back. We would specifically like to recognize J&E Masonry who has been a tremendous help on this project.

Now that we are looking at a good stretch of clear weather, we should gain even more days back.
